Let’s Go Birds!

By July 8, 2026No Comments

Last month our Home was treated to visit from some extraordinary birds. Staff from the National Aviary on Pittsburgh’s North Side came to the Home with three lovely birds—a Macaw parrot, a screech owl and an African penguin. Animal trainers, veterinary students, and Dr. Pilar Fish, head of Veterinary Medicine at the Aviary, were on hand to share more about each bird’s characteristics and how they came to live at the Aviary. The birds were escorted around the auditorium for an up-close viewing. The Residents were then able to ask questions about them and were even able to touch a fallen owl feather. A fall outing is being planned for the Residents and Sisters to visit the rest of the birds living at the National Aviary.
