Kuhn’s Market is a local grocery store chain here in the Pittsburgh region. Thanks to their friend Rob Pratte of KDKA the Little Sisters were introduced to Kuhn’s President and owner, Joe Dentici. After Mr. Dentici visited the Home he offered to help us in a unique way. On a beautiful Saturday in June the Sisters operated a hot dog stand outside of a Kuhn’s store.
Since Kuhn’s donated all the food, drink and supplies, all the proceeds collected were directed to support the Little Sisters mission. Additionally the Sisters and their volunteers were allowed to pass out a list of frequently needed grocery items for the Home to incoming Kuhn’s customers in hopes that they would “shop” for the Sisters.
The response was truly unbelievable. Many shoppers exited the store with more groceries for the Little Sisters than for themselves. Multiple vehicles were overflowing with boxes of cereal, bags of coffee, and cans of soup to take back to feed the elderly poor Residents of the Home. All in all it was a great day to share the Little Sisters mission of caring for the elderly poor with the customers of Kuhn’s. Many thanks to Mr. Dentici and his staff at Kuhn’s markets for creating such a fun and worthwhile venture for the Little Sisters!
